Not so ‘Super’natural…

Well, where do I start. There’s no point reviewing past seasons as they can be summed up in 1 word…awesome, especially seasons 4/5– Dean’s epic comeback from hell, the introduction of Castiel and the Angels and the prophets, The 4 Hoursemen (Death was just wow…see below), Loki, and the amazing battle between Lucifer and Michael.

But these last 3 seasons (6-8). Well. They seem to have lost the plot completely.

Whilst I’ve liked the work that Sera Gamble has done on the previous series, she hadn’t been able to shine the torch as brightly as Eric Kripke. Season 6’s soulless Sam business had potential but that was over before it even started. Then there was the Leviathan…the less said the better (Kevin was the only good thing to come out of that season). And if I’m honest, Jeremy Carver's season 8 doesn’t seem to be going any better (although it’s still early days)…He just seems to be cleaning up after this Leviathan mess.

The episodes have gotten boring and stale. They rehash the same things over and over – “oo look Angry ghost, let’s find out story and kill angry ghost, ghost dead, dean eats a burger…” or “oh no sam/dean is dead/lost, I can’t let them go, I’ll never forget them, oh no here he is, he’s a live again” (after ending 3 series on that it gets kinda old ya know). It just doesn’t seem to be working anymore. It seemed more ‘Charmed’ than anything.

If I could pluck out some good moments I would…but at the moment there are none to be found bar the humour which has remained and is better than ever. But I still think they should have let it go out with a bang after season 5. Flogging a dead horse is just awkward.
So why do I still watch it? Well…I’m  a sucker for a tall guy with hippy hair fighting ghouls, and raspy voiced burger eater with a slight drinking problem, who’s a little too close to his angel.

What would doom do? He'd kick back and remember the better days of Supernatural with the season 5 trailer. ha.
